Twilio
Use Twilio when you want Drip Drop to send SMS and MMS messages and receive inbound SMS through a Twilio phone number.
When to Use Twilio
- You want Drip Drop to send text messages from a Twilio phone number.
- You want inbound SMS and message status updates to reach Drip Drop through a Twilio webhook.
00 Before You Start
- Confirm you have Twilio account access and permission to manage the phone number you want to use.
- Make sure at least one Twilio phone number is available on the account.
- Have the Account SID and Auth Token ready.
- Choose a Twilio phone number that you can use for initial outbound and inbound testing.
01 Choose Twilio
- From the dashboard, open Integrations → Text Message, then select New Integration.
- Choose Twilio. Drip Drop lists only providers that are not already configured for the account, so Twilio will not appear if a Twilio integration already exists.
02 Connect Twilio
- Enter a clear Name, then enter the Account SID and Auth Token from Twilio.
- Select Save & Continue to save the integration and move to Webhooks.
03 Configure Webhooks
- Select the Twilio Phone Number that should receive inbound messages and status callbacks. Select Configure Webhook, then Verify Webhook. If Drip Drop reports a conflict, review the existing URL before selecting Overwrite Existing Webhook. To finish this later, select Skip for now.
04 Add Senders
Add or sync at least one Twilio phone number. Flows cannot send until a sender exists. Select Continue, or select Skip for now and add a sender later from the integration settings.
05 Verify the Connection
Review stored credentials, webhook status, and senders. Credentials stored confirms only that values are saved; select Check credentials to test them with Twilio. Resolve any warnings now, or select Done and return later from the integration settings.
06 Webhook Details
What Configure Webhook Changes
Configure Webhook sets both the selected Twilio phone number’s incoming-message SMS URL and Status Callback URL to the Drip Drop webhook URL.
Handling an Existing Webhook Conflict
- If the selected phone number’s SMS URL already points elsewhere, Drip Drop shows a conflict. Select Overwrite Existing Webhook only if Drip Drop should replace it.
What Verify Webhook Checks
- Verify Webhook confirms that the selected phone number’s SMS URL matches the Drip Drop webhook URL. It does not check the Status Callback URL.
Manual Setup in Twilio Console
- If auto-configure is not available, add the Drip Drop URL manually in Twilio Console.
- Open the correct phone number in Twilio Console.
- Set the phone number’s incoming-message SMS URL to the Drip Drop webhook URL.
- Set the Status Callback URL to the same Drip Drop webhook URL.
- Save the changes. In Drip Drop, return to Webhooks, select the same Phone Number, then select Verify Webhook. This verifies only the SMS URL; confirm the Status Callback URL separately in Twilio.
07 Messaging Behavior
Outbound SMS and MMS
- Outbound SMS and MMS use a configured Twilio sender. Messages with media require a sender that supports MMS.
Inbound SMS
- Inbound messages are webhook-driven, not mailbox-based.
- Twilio sends incoming SMS and delivery status callbacks to the same Drip Drop webhook URL. Configure that URL in both Twilio fields.
Delivery-Status Events
Twilio status callbacks update message activity after a send.
- A delivered callback creates a delivery event for the matching message.
- Failed and undelivered callbacks create bounce events for the matching message.
Troubleshooting
Credentials and Resource Problems
- If the provider cannot connect, confirm the Account SID and Auth Token are correct.
- If no phone numbers appear, make sure the Twilio account actually owns a compatible number.
- If the wrong number is selected on Webhooks, choose the phone number whose SMS URL and status callback should point to Drip Drop. Configure sending numbers separately on Senders.
Webhook Problems
- If Drip Drop reports a conflict, check whether the number already points to another webhook URL in Twilio.
- If inbound messages or status updates do not appear, confirm the SMS URL and Status Callback URL on the Twilio phone number both point to Drip Drop.
- If the final Verify step cannot confirm the webhook, return to Webhooks, select the Phone Number, and select Verify Webhook there.
Inbound and Sending Problems
- If messages send but replies do not appear, test the inbound webhook path with a real SMS to the configured Twilio number.
- If status updates are missing, verify the status callback is pointed at Drip Drop as expected.
